Nutmeg is looking for the next great voice in Scottish football content – and we’ve built a unique training and development programme to give our new signing the best possible start.
A paid, season-long apprenticeship covering print, digital and broadcast football media
Learn alongside the best in the game – tailored, high-value work experience spots
Produce content for each edition of Nutmeg magazine plus on Nutmeg FC, our online platform
Develop and launch your own channel with the help of the Nutmeg team – a pitch for your new, independent channel (a magazine, a blog, a YouTube show, podcast or website) will be your application to the Nutmeg Academy
This is a fantastic opportunity to start your career in football media, whether you are coming out of school, further education or looking for a change in direction.
JOIN THE TEAM
You will be a part of the editorial team at Nutmeg, producing the best Scottish football magazine on the market and writing for Nutmeg FC, our growing digital brand.
You’ll also be connected with the best in sports media for high-value work experience spots – witness a day in the life of sportswriters, broadcasters, club media and independent content creators, and develop your own network of professional connections.
Finally, we will work with you to make your own channel a reality – that could be a website, a magazine, subscription media, a YouTube channel… we have the whole of season 2026-27 to get your independent vision ready for launch.
THE SEASON
You’ll report for pre-season training in July 2026, and by the end of May 2027 you’ll be a free agent with a wealth of top-flight experience behind you.
You’ll be a valued team member for the duration of your time in the Nutmeg Academy – full details, including pay, will be discussed during our selection process.
PLAYER PROFILE
There are no barriers to entry in terms of academic or professional qualifications, nor in terms of age. We are looking for a new voice in football media, with a bold, unique vision. But your role in the Nutmeg Academy has to be your focus for your time with us, so if you are still involved in full-time education, or if you are employed elsewhere on a full-time basis, this is not for you.
This is a flexible opportunity. We’d love to see you in person as much as possible, but if the best applicant has other priorities in her or his life, we’re happy to help you achieve your goals without disrupting these – that includes remote working and flexible workdays.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
We’re looking for between 500 and 1000 words in total, describing you and your vision for a new football channel – that could be a magazine, a blog, a YouTube show, a podcast, a website or something really cool that we don’t even know about.
If you want to include a media attachment to illustrate your project, please do, but our selection will be driven by the strength of the idea and the individual – if you don’t have access to the equipment you need to do your thing, that will not hold you back. Just tell us about it.
